Singer, songwriter, performer and musician Ben Lee is a fun guy and he’s titled a new album to prove it. It’s called ‘I’m Fun’ and while musically it’s more ballady than the bubbly album title may suggest, it does capture the essence of Ben’s colourful life and personality. There’s a genial, nostalgic tone to these ten tracks, a mark of an artist looking back as much as forward. He’s brought along a bunch of friends for the ride too … Georgia Maq, Sally Seltmann, Megan Washington, Sadie Dupuis, Zooey Deschanel, Eric D, Johnson, and Shamir all share in Ben’s creative trek, albeit remotely thanks to the pandemic.
Splitting his life between Sydney and Los Angeles, where he lives with his actress wife Ione Skye and their daughter Goldie, Ben seems to lead an interesting, fulfilling life, one which he and Ione discuss aspects of in their weekly podcast Weirder Together, along with their equally fascinating friends.
When Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips caught up with Ben Lee over a zoom call, he was in the process of preparing for a couple of live shows in LA and New York and told us how much difference the acquisition of an Australian-made Dirty Elvis Guitar has made to his music making and performing.
In the full interview, Ben also discusses the creation of his new album I’m Fun, his podcast and much more. Check out the full Ben Lee interview HERE
