Australian Musician magazine was created in 1995 and has been edited and produced in all of its forms by Greg Phillips. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of Australian Musician, one of our partners at the Melbourne Guitar Show. Greg will interview Paul Dempsey, renowned for his work as guitarist, vocalist and principal lyricist of Something For Kate, his own solo career, and the more recent project Fanning Dempsey National Park.

Renowned guitarist Paul Mason, founding member of Battlesnake and long-time lead guitarist for Jessica Mauboy, brings his critically acclaimed event In Honour of Jeff Beck, to the Melbourne Guitar Show. Joining Paul for this special performance is the iconic Brett Garsed, celebrated for his groundbreaking work with John Farnham and his enduring influence on Australian music.

Relentlessly gigging across the globe, equipped with an old Goldtop in her hands and a revolutionary Farmer Foot Drum at her feet; Marks consistently pushes musical limits with her mind-blowing, dynamic guitar wizardry and her insanely powerful voice, that roars out her truth through song as if her own life depended on it. And, if that’s not enough, simultaneously, creates bone marrow shaking grooves with spare limbs on her Foot Drum kit. Finally all three beasts are married together to forge a mammoth sized wall of sound.

Three much loved Melbourne guitarists come together for a repeat of the special project Triple Fret. Kathleen Halloran is a rising star in the scene, well known for her work with Kate Ceberano, sharing the stage with a wide range of artists, and recently releasing her first solo single ‘Free With Me’. Jimi Hocking is a songwriter, singer and guitarist of the highest calibre, well known for his work with the Screaming Jets and as a solo artist. His combination of banter and story-telling, wailing guitar and mandolin with superb songwriting and performance makes Jimi one of the must-see acts in blues today. Geoff Achison has established himself as a firm favourite on UK, US and Oz blues/roots scenes. After many years living and touring in America’s deep south, Geoff continues to refine his unique playing style and grow his repertoire drawing on a heart full of experience.

Blending class-act musicianship with a rare gift of both conviction and restraint, the creative prowess of The CB3 defines new parameters for contemporary music. Barbieri’s trademark sound and approach to the craft has featured onstage with some of contemporary and pop music’s most acclaimed artists (GoldLink, Masta Ace, and more).

Leon Todd is a guitarist, composer and educator who has toured the world with his original power trio Ragdoll and shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the world of Rock, Metal and Pop. In addition to his output as an artist and session musician, Leon is a prominent content creator with a popular Youtube channel covering gear reviews, tutorials and lessons, all delivered with his trademark laid back Australian style.
In this session, Leon will showcase a range of guitars and musical styles, showing you how to choose the right gear for the music you’re playing.
